The effect of this massage is to gently cleanse the body by stimulating the circulatory and lymphatic systems and exfoliating the skin. It can be a very useful treatment to encourage weight loss and reduce kapha in the body. Udvartana is often used as a beautifying treatment as the exfoliation enhances the texture and rejuvenates the skin. Udvartana is one of the few treatments that can be received when there is significant ama (toxins) in the body and is very helpful in removing ama and reducing excess kapha. It is not recommended when there is excess pitta in the body. Udvartana is a very beneficial treatment to reduce ama when undergoing an ama pachana (cleanse programme). If you have particularly sensitive skin please ask to do a patch test prior to the treatment to ensure there is no reaction to the Udvartana powder.
