The name Pinda Sweda is the joining of the Sanskrit words Pinda meaning bolus and Sweda meaning sweating and is a full body massage using cotton boluses filled with herbs dipped in hot or warm oil. The heat and the gentle flowing and tapping strokes are very beneficial for conditions of the nervous system arising from excess vata. During this treatment two boluses are rotated keeping one in the hot oil so as to maintain the temperature during the treatment. The consistent heat and oil brought to the joints can bring great relief and lubrication. Pinda Sweda treatment can also benefit weight loss by stimulating the metabolism and relieving lymphatic congestion.
